Pimp My Ride!

Tournament coming up, so I thought it was time to bring out the ol' Black Legion for a ride. But it needed some new paint first.

I'll hopefully have a tournament report up in a couple of weeks as well!

Maulerfiend tabletop!

I managed to finally get this thingy to table top quality! In fact, enjoyed the look of it so much I have another one waiting to be converted as well...

Something...

So... I've been a bit lazy in updating this blog. I'm still in the hobby though. Still playing. Still making stuff. So I thought I'd share some work in progress pictures of my latest project. I'm pretty sure that when the new Chaos codex comes Maulerfiends will become a squadron or at the very least a formation. So I figured I needed another one.

And also I have a little diorama that's starting to take shape (still a long way to go though) that I'll add as a bonus.

Magnetised Herald/Sorcerer/Blue Scribes on Disc of Tzeentch

So I bought a Chariot of Tzeentch, because I wanted the disc. It's kind of the obvious use of it, right? However, I'm not planning on making a Screamer-star, but I do want a single Herald on a Disc to add some variety to my lists. But I also wanted it to benefit my Chaos Marines, so I decided to make the Disc magnetised! I had a Sorcerer who got the honours, and the way I made it I can create more discs at a later time... since I would like to make a Chaos Lord as well (running the Murder Sword, I like the idea of an assassin on a jetbike!).

Here's the result anyhow!

I also put a magnet on a simple base, so that I can use these models on foot instead should I want to. I'll probably make something more fancy out of it later, but for now it's simply a magnet in a base...

*Edit*
So I looked at the bits that were left... Blue Horrors, books, scrolls... Wait, two Blue Horrors on a Disc? Now that seems familiar. So I went ahead and made my own version of the Blue Scribes as well.

When you run out of glue...

So I got my hands on a Wraithknight. The base has to be something special right? So I had just built a Daemon Prince and had some extra bits left over... and then I ran out of glue. Ahwell. A good start at least!

My gang of big guys is starting to look pretty nice... but I do hope the rumours about new Greater Daemons is true... my Keeper of Secrets is starting to look very small in this company...

A bit of a showcase

Long time no post... again. And no game this time! I'm actually soon at 400 painted models (model no 400 will be a Daemon Prince, it's work in progress). So I thought this would be a good time to put some pictures on some of my own favourite models online. Hope you enjoy!

Let's start with my Chaos Lord since CSM is my main army. I painted this guy before Dark Vengeance was released... and had chosen turquoise as my complementary colour for my Black Legion before that... and to my surprise GW did the same thing! Bah! Stealing my originality! :P

Let's go on with some more CSM stuff.

My first attempt at lightning effects. This Berzerker Champion rarely sees battle... but at least his sword looks shiny!

One night when I couldn't sleep I made this one... out of paper and various bits. It's even magnetised, since when I made it your "mark" was decided by the banner so I thought I could make different ones! Then the new codex hit and nothing more came of that... :P

Because freehand shoulder pads and Daemonic weapons are fun.

Much like my Berzerker Champion Khârn doesn't get to fight much... but I love the model. Hard to believe it was sculpted over 20 years ago. I tried to make his skin quite red, as if his blood is boiling. Quite happy with the result.

I totally love this model. But everything is metal on him, which makes him a bit tricky to paint. I tried to use various different tones on all the metal bits to have some variety at least... and the blue wash didn't turn out well at all on picture... but ah well.

On to some Daemon perhaps?

This is probably my favourite GW model of all time. I just love the head and horns of it. It was so easy to paint really, because the sculpt is so good you could kind of do pretty much anything...

I wish they would re-make these ones in plastic... best Daemon-troops by far! I only have ten of these old sculpts, so I took the time to make the Slaanesh-symbol on their loinclothes to add some extra detail.

Picked this model up from Coolminiornot just because I liked it. Then I started playing Daemons, and thought this would be a very good Herald of Slaanesh... I decided to make her more purple than my other Slaanesh-stuff because I wanted her to stand out a bit more, even if the large base does that.

Now, let's look at some random models I've painted over the years...

When I started this hobby some ten years ago I played Fantasy (6:th edition). After the starter box I went for a Night Goblin army (I have some 150 of the little buggers. Undefeated too!). This was my first really big model as well as conversion. Perhaps not up to the same standard I can do today, but I still really like it. I even sculpted the shield myself!

Even if I started the hobby ten years ago I've not been active for all that time... I actually had a break for seven years. This is the second model I painted after the break (the first one was a random Goblin I had laying around). Such an awesome pose. I also had a very limited palette back then as all my paints had dried out, so did a lot of colour mixing here. I really like the cold blue tone the cape got for example.

And this was the third model after the break... Heinrich has always been one of my favourite Fantasy models. So when I got back to painting he had to be one of the models I made. I tried to make his skin look really old, while his coat should be fleshy and fresh. Pleased with the effect!

Wood Elves has always been one of the coolest looking armies in my opinion (looking forwards to the new models that are on the horizon according to the rumours!. This one I spend a lot of time with the face and hair. The lips are even red, and the eyes are blue. Probably one of the best faces I've ever painted.

Another elf, and another of my better faces! Went for very natural colours for this one, and for contrast I made him albino.

I like painting green. I mean, I have all those Goblins, so I have some practice at it... this one I took extra care to make him look battle damaged. I like how the paint looks chipped away and old on the shoulder pads.

Snikrot is one of the coolest Orks around. Made an experiment with the skin tone here... it's some five or six layers, starting with brown and gradually mixing in more and more green. He looks way more leathery than my other Orks, and considering his age, that's appropriate!

And finally, another Champion of Chaos. Loved this model when it came, painted it some 8 years later. Again, as a Champion of Khorne he's constantly angry and boiling blood... so a red skin tone felt right.

So, there you have it! Some of my favourite models I've painted over the years! Hope you liked! Stay tuned for model number 400... taking my time with it, hoping it'll really stand out...

Portalglyph!

Some weeks ago I saw Kriskens Portalglyph over at his blog, Scratchbuilt 40K. Let's just say I was inspired by the idea. So I made one myself as well.

Time to spawn some Daemons!

Eldar paintscheme

So, as noticed by my latest battle report I'm starting Eldar! And here's my paintscheme so far.

First Wraithguard/Wraithblade done... all magnetised. So four more to go!

And here's an WIP-picture of one of my Warlocks that I finished some time ago... but I'm too lazy to take a new picture.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out really! Now I need to start crafting some backstory for my new Craftworld...

*Edit*
Managed to paint a Ranger tonight as well...

Cultists!

Been busy converting up some Cultists this past week! Thought I'd show some pictures because I'm quite happy with the result.

So I kind of have a story-line for my Cultists theme in the army. Basically it's a Chaos cult that has infested a planet and then as the Chaos Marines have arrived the planetary defence force has also succumbed as well. This means I have a rag-tag team of Cultists... but with various military equipment that has been looted from the armouries. But  also some former Guardsmen that have retained some of their discipline and still fights as a unit.

Now I actually have a game with a list based around these guys planned tomorrow... let's see how that turns out...

The whole merry crew
They're basically made from Cadian Shocktroops, Catachan Command Squad, Empire Flagellants and various Chaos-bits from my bitsbox... Lets take a closer look at some of the guys.

The Polearms.

This fella is my favourite. He turned out really badass.

The Sword-dudes. Yeah, the guy to the left has an Empire Knight arm...

Flame-lovers! Three flamers and various torches...

And well, while I have the camera out, why not show my latest painting projects? First is my cult-leader. Basically he's the Champion of one of my groups but it's too nice of a model to just be a Champion so he'll double for a Dark Apostle when I need one.

Very much work in progress

And then are some Ork Kommandos... lovely models!

Not quite done, but a decent table-top at least!

And lastly is a gift I painted up for a friend. Great fun painting camo!

Build Day

So what do you do when there's a snowstorm outside? You build stuff of course! I took the opportunity to get further along on a couple of my projects. Here are some quick pictures!

Finally I have some riders to my bikes! Basically kit-bashing between Biker-set and the CSM-box and some simple repositioning of weapons and arms.

Ten Havocs! GW messed up on my first order and sent me a box with a missing sprue, so after contacting them I got a new box. So I had to do some improvising to fill out the missing bits! Also I decided to make another Autocannon-guy from the Heldrake Hades Autocannon combined with a Heavy Bolter. Looks pretty neat I think!

Did some finishing touches on my FW Daemon Prince that I've added wings too. Needed some extra Greenstuff to cover the pins to the wings (which are also magnetised) so I fixed that today as well.

And finally I did some work on my Maulerfiend that has been half-built for quite some time. Earlier I magnetised all options for Maulerfiend/Forgefiend - but this left me the question on how to get the Maulerfiend-options in there... because I couldn't be bothered to magnetise two of the legs that it would actually stand on... I was also missing shoulder plates for the Maulerfiend-arms. So therefor I decided to go for this conversion. Yes, it's not possible to take both Lasher Tendrils and Magma Cutters in play but I don't care. I liked the idea of it!
Quite a productive day I think! Now it's just this painting thing left...

My (painted) army so far

So I had no electricity for a few hours today. What to do? Well, why not try my new camera? So here's what I have painted for my Black Legion so far. I am a bit annoyed by the fact that GW also decided to use a turquoise colour on their Black Legion for the alternative pictures to the Dark Vengeance box... so now it looks like I'm copying them! I actually started painting these guys a year ago! Ah well!

Progress is slow, but even so.

All of the painted Legion so far.

One of my two Berzerker squads, this Champion wit h a Power Sword. I also used parts from Empire Knights on these guys to add some extra detail.

Terminators! Their arms are actually magnetized, so all options for me!

Raptors... these guys are a real pain to make them stand up...

My Sorcerer in Terminator armour, he can replace his Combi-Melta with a Combi-Bolter.

Plague Marines. Have some attempts with greenstuff here as well as painting glowing plasma.

My latest finished addition. Really love this model, was great fun to paint. I went with blue Power Weapons in this army, and red ones were supposed to be Daemon weapons.. no more generic Daemon weapons in the codex though. Oh well. At least it makes him stand out!

The first model I painted for this army I think. At first I just bought the Be'lakor model to paint because I really like it. Then I decided to start a CSM army, so a Daemon Prince he became. Also my first attempt at painting lightnings on a weapon.

So on the shelf for "Work in Progress" I currently have a 10 man unit of Thousand Sons (very nearly done), another unit of 8 Thousand Sons with a custom Sorcerer, 4 Obliterators, 11 Chosen, 28 Cultists, Helbrute, Decimator, Defiler, 5 Possessed, Ahriman, Khârn, 10 Berzerkers, 4 Havocs and the Dark Vengeance Lord... And that's only one army! Also before the new stuff arrives... Gee I better start painting!
